Accelerating team development for Rotherham

Updated: Mar 13, 2019

In 2015, in the wake of a child sexual exploitation scandal, Rotherham Council was placed in Government Intervention and its powers transferred to a set of commissioners appointed by the government. In 2016 a new executive team was recruited to work with Government Commissioners and the Shadow Cabinet, creating a new culture with a strong moral compass in the Council, improving services working collaboratively with local people and agencies regionally and nationally. Greengage were asked to work with the new team to develop greater clarity about its strategic priorities and capacity of the team to work together to deliver on this demanding agenda.

The work with Greengage allowed us to accelerate the process of developing the team.”

“The new team was under great pressure to perform and we had little time to work through the normal process of building a mature team. The work with Greengage allowed us to accelerate the process of developing the team and helped us articulate a clear, new way of working for the senior team and for the council. This had a very positive impact on the rest of the organization that was looking to the senior team for direction and leadership. Through the work we fast forwarded the creation of a senior leadership team with high standards and a clarity about what we expected.”

Sharon Kemp, Chief Executive

Rotherham Council
